Cuauhtémoc Medina
Basé à Mexico, Cuauhtémoc Medina est un commissaire d’exposition, critique et historien de l’art de renommée internationale. En 2019, il a été nommé commissaire de la 12e Biennale de Shanghai, l’un des évènements majeurs en Chine. La thématique centrale de la biennale, sélectionnée par Medina, est la notion de Proregress, terme issu de la contraction de progress et regress, comme la réinterprétation du conservatisme et de la transformation dans la culture contemporaine. Ce thème est à la fois unifiant et actuel pour les artistes participants, étant donné que la plupart d’entre eux vivent et travaillent en Amérique latine ou en Chine, là où l’innovation et la tradition s’entremêlent.

Cuauhtémoc Medina is a Mexico-based internationally renowned art curator, critic and historian. In 2019, he was named as curator of the 12th Shanghai Biennale, one of the major art events in China. As the main topic of the Biennale, Medina selected the notion of “Proregress” as a word made of the condensation of progress and regress as the re-interpretation of conservatism and transformation in contemporary culture. This topic was uniting and actual for the participating artists, as most of them are based in Latin America or China, where tradition meets innovation.
